In Loving Memory
Nancy Jane Wright
September 17, 1933 - June 24, 2023

Nancy Jane Wright passed away peacefully at home on June 24, 2023, at the age of 89. She is survived by her two siblings: Orlando Harrison Smith (Nicha) and Suellen Hixon. She was “Mom” to five children: Thomas IV, Louise (Warren), Lorraine (Tom), Gregory, and Randall (Nancy), and “Gam” to six grandchildren: Erica, Emily, Mallory, Calley, Audrey, and Ethan.

Nancy was always well put together, matching every outfit with a cozy sweater, stylish pants, coordinated jewelry, and perfectly curled hair. With QVC on speed dial, she welcomed a steady stream of deliveries, most of which were shoes of every color and style imaginable.

Her work ethic was impeccable; she didn’t believe in sick days and was very proud of her employee of the year award. She was a true asset to every company she worked for, and she continued to work full-time until the age of 82. Even then, she didn’t want to retire.

As a child she spent weekends at the Jersey Shore with her family. She had fond memories of swimming in the ocean late at night with her father and being a contestant in the 1956 Atlantic City Bathing Beauty Contest. She continued to vacation at the beach regularly into her 80’s. Another favorite vacation memory of Nancy’s was an Alaskan Cruise that she enjoyed with her sister, Suellen.

Nancy loved to spend time watching birds at the feeders and cursing the squirrels that stole from them. She loved the smell of lilac and lily of the valley but couldn’t stand lavender. If you ever needed a quick snack to hold you over before dinner, you could check the dishwasher for some cereal or chips, but never dishes. Friday nights were for egg drop soup and shrimp with snow peas. After 8pm, it was time for dessert upstairs while watching television. This could include Golden Girls, game shows, true crime, or cartoons, and she was sure to mute every commercial. She had a special love for jigsaw puzzles, which always involved finding stray pieces stuck to the sleeves of her sweater or calling in backup to retrieve pieces that fell on the floor. There isn’t a single Wysocki puzzle she hasn’t completed. We’re going to miss the sound of her tapping every piece as it fell into place. “Piece”!

Nobody could match Nancy’s legendary Christmas Eve get-togethers; all first timers became regulars who enjoyed it so much they came back every year. She embraced every holiday, always wearing the scariest Halloween costumes and peeling rutabagas on Thanksgiving. She loved Christmas so much that her tree remained on display until February every year.

Nancy was extremely intelligent and liked to remind us that she was class president of her freshman year at Moravian college. She was a quick-witted and humorous woman, infecting everyone with her unforgettable smile and laughter. She will also be remembered by her personal dictionary of “Gam language” which has been passed down through generations. She always treated every new face as one of her own and would be sure to follow along with everyone’s life adventures.

Over the last several decades, someone in heaven has been sending her dimes to find and now we will be watching for the dimes she sends us. Words can’t describe how much she was loved and how much she will be missed.

Many thanks to her friend Annette Harper-Jackson who brought “sunshine” into “Miss Nancy’s” mornings.

A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. We love you, Gam.
